Cheeky Monkeys at Durrell are looking for a level 3 trained practitioner to join our friendly team, working either a 38-hour week or afternoons from 1-5.30pm. It would be desirable for applicants to be First Aid and Child Protection trained. A current DBS would be an advantage but this can be arranged.

The successful candidate needs to love the outdoors and show enthusiasm within their practice demonstrating the ability to work within a team, communicating effectively with both children, parents and staff. The role will be working across the age groups. To start as soon as possible .

Special Needs Inclusion Programme (SNIP)

JCCT support children in a childcare setting as part of their Special Needs Inclusion Project. A support worker from JCCT joins us at the nursery regularly to give 1:1 attention to one of our children under this initiative.

The special needs inclusion project (SNIP) supports preschool children with special educational needs and disabilities (SEND) access mainstream private nurseries and preschools. It supports any child from birth to school age with an additional need accessing a private nursery or preschool setting. The main criteria is that the child is accessing support through two professional agencies e.g. Speech and Language Therapy, Early Years Inclusion Team, Physiotherapy, Occupational Therapy.

Swimming

We have swimming lessons on a Friday at the Aquasplash and are collected and dropped off via minibus. Please ensure your child is wearing easy loose clothing on this day.

The group lessons are structured by one of the lead swim teachers, utilising weekly themes and covering a range of swim skills to build confidence in the water and start to develop basic swim skills.

The group will have the use of the leisure pool and will be allocated x2 qualified swim teachers. The children will be divided into 2 groups with a teaching ratio of 1:6 dependent on their swimming ability. The swim teachers will conduct an assessment for the children ahead of identifying the pool area and group they will swim in.

We will need the children to bring along the following:

Swimming costume
Goggles
Towel
Aquasplash will issue a hat, if they don’t already have one

Sign Time

Each week our under 3’s spend time singing and signing with Lisa, who is qualified in British Sign Language. This includes favourite nursery rhymes, action songs, signing stories and playing games.

Animal encounters

Once a week a group of our Growing Gorillas will go into the zoo and learn about a specific animal with a formal education officer. We also have access behind the scenes where we can see the food being grown and prepared for the animals.
